Large Neon Signs

A large neon sign is the one people see from across the room, from the street, or from the back of the venue. We make LED neon signs from 4 feet wide up to building-size pieces made in sections, for bars, showrooms, offices, event walls and the occasional living room. This page covers what large signs cost, how they are built, and what to think about before you order one.

Every large sign is custom. Send the design and the wall size, and you get a priced proof within one business day.

What a large neon sign costs

Large signs are priced by width and by how much tube the design needs. These are the prices from the signs we quoted in the last four months, 4 feet wide and up. Half of all quotes in each band fall inside the range shown; a short phrase sits at the low end, a detailed logo at the high end.

Width Typical price Middle of the band
4 to 5 feet (48 to 59 in) $700 to $1,300 $1,020
5 to 6 feet (60 to 71 in) $885 to $1,485 $1,165
6 to 8 feet (72 to 95 in) $1,130 to $1,585 $1,410
8 feet and wider $1,000 and up, quoted per design depends on the design

Prices include express shipping, a remote dimmer, power supplies and mounting hardware. Signs over 8 feet are quoted individually because at that size the design drives the price far more than the width does: 12 feet of plain text costs a fraction of a 12-foot detailed logo. If you have a lower written quote for the same sign, send it to us and we will beat it. See the full price guide for smaller sizes.

How large signs are built

  • Any tube size. Our standard LED neon tube is 6 mm, with 8 mm and 12 mm available. A large sign can use any of them; 12 mm often looks better on big, simple letters, while a detailed design keeps a thinner tube. The proof shows which we recommend.
  • Made in pieces when it has to ship. Very large signs are made in two or more pieces so they can be shipped, then joined on the wall. How many pieces depends on the size and the shape of the design, and the proof shows where the breaks are.
  • Power supplies to match the tube. How many power supplies a sign needs depends on how much LED tube is in it. Large signs often ship with more than one, each feeding its own run. They plug into standard outlets, or your electrician can hard-wire them.
  • Mounting for weight. Large signs wall-mount on standoffs through pre-drilled holes into studs or anchors, or hang from chains or cable. The proof shows the mounting points.
  • Outdoor builds. For the exterior of a building, order the outdoor build. For a fascia sign that has to survive years of weather and be seen from the road, channel letters or a lightbox may suit better; we will say so in the proof if that is the case.

Sizing a large sign

The two questions are how far away people stand and how wide the wall is. From across a room, letters should be at least 4 inches tall; from across a street, 8 inches and up. A sign reads as "large" when it fills about a third of the wall it hangs on, so a 12-foot back bar wants a 4-foot sign and a 20-foot showroom wall wants 6 to 7 feet.

  • Back bar or feature wall: 4 to 6 feet.
  • Showroom, gym or warehouse wall: 6 to 10 feet.
  • Event and stage backdrops: 6 to 8 feet, in pieces that pack flat.
  • Building exterior: 8 feet and up, usually in pieces, or a channel-letter build.

Tell us the wall width and the viewing distance in the quote form and we will suggest a size.

Delivery and installation

Large signs keep our normal production and delivery time: 10 to 12 days from payment to your door, express shipping included, whatever the size. Every sign arrives with mounting hardware and the power supplies. Most customers hang a 4 to 6 foot sign themselves with two people and a drill; for anything bigger or anything exterior we recommend a local sign installer, and we supply the drawings they need.

How it works

  1. Send the design and the wall size. A logo file, a sketch or a photo of the wall with the size you have in mind.
  2. Get a priced proof within one business day. The proof shows the sign at size, the tube width, the sections if any, and the price.
  3. Approve and pay. Revisions are free until it is right.
  4. Delivery in 10 to 12 days, any size, express shipping included.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a large neon sign cost?

Most 4 to 6 foot signs cost between $700 and $1,500. Six to 8 foot signs run $1,100 to $1,600. Over 8 feet, the price depends on the design more than the width: plain text stays affordable, detailed logos cost more. Every quote is free and includes a design proof.

What is the biggest neon sign you can make?

There is no limit. Very large signs are made in pieces that join on the wall, and even 100 feet wide is possible, though uncommon. Very large exterior signs are often better made as channel letters or a lightbox, and we make those too.

Does a big sign use a lot of power?

No. LED neon runs on 12 volts and is efficient. Large signs often ship with more than one power supply, each feeding its own run of tube, so no single run is overloaded.

Can a large sign go outside?

Yes. Order the outdoor build. For a permanent sign on a building fascia, ask us about channel letters or a lightbox as well; the proof will recommend the build that suits the location.

Can I hang it myself?

A 4 to 6 foot sign, yes, with two people. Larger multi-piece signs and anything exterior should go to a local installer; we supply the mounting drawings.

How long does a large sign take?

The same as any other sign: 10 to 12 days from payment to your door, express shipping included. Size does not change the production time.
