Neon Signs for Gyms and Fitness Studios

A gym sign has to work from across the floor. It is the logo on the feature wall members see from every rack, the phrase above the mirrors that ends up in their progress photos, and the name in the window that tells the street you are open at 5am. LED neon is bright enough for a 20-foot wall, runs cool, has no glass to break, and wipes clean.

We have made signs for commercial gyms, CrossFit boxes, boxing and MMA gyms, yoga and pilates studios, personal training studios and more garage gyms than we can count. Below is what gyms order, what it costs, and how to get one.

What gyms and studios order from us

The feature-wall logo. Your logo at 36 to 60 inches on the main wall, the one behind the turf or the rig. Gym logos are the largest signs we make for any small business, and the wall usually has the room. For anything over 4 feet, see the large signs page.

Motivational phrases. "Beast mode", "No excuses", "Stronger every day", "Earn it", "Breathe". Above the mirrors, over the stretch area, on the wall at the end of the sled lane. Members photograph them, and that is free marketing.

Studio signs. Yoga and pilates studios go softer: the studio name in a script font in white or warm white, a lotus or a single line illustration, a phrase by the door. Smaller, 24 to 36 inches, dimmed low for class.

Garage and home gyms. A name, a logo for a small community gym run out of a garage, or a last name on the wall of a home gym. These are 24 to 36 inches and often ordered as gifts.

Window and entrance signs. Your name or "Open 24 hours" facing the street, with the dimmer turned down during the day.

What a gym sign costs

Gym signs run bigger than most. Half of the gym signs we quote are between 28 and 60 inches wide, and most land between $450 and $1,300. A phrase sits at the low end of each band, a detailed logo at the high end.

Width Typical price
24 to 35 inches $355 to $545
36 to 47 inches $520 to $960
48 to 59 inches $700 to $1,345
60 inches and wider $980 to $1,590

Prices are from the quotes we sent in the last three months and include express shipping, a remote dimmer, the power supply and mounting hardware. Color count does not change the price. If you have a lower written quote for the same sign, send it to us and we will beat it. See the full price guide.

Why LED neon in a gym

  • Reads across the floor. Letters 4 inches tall read from across a room, so a 48-inch logo reads from the far end of most gym floors. Thicker 8 mm or 12 mm tube is available for big, simple lettering.
  • Nothing to break. No glass. The tube is silicone-encased LED on an acrylic backing. A stray medicine ball bounces off it.
  • Cool and safe. Runs on 12 volts and stays cool to the touch. Fine next to the rig, over the stretch area, or where members lean in for a photo.
  • Wipes clean. Chalk dust and sweat in the air are no problem. Unplug it and wipe it with a soft dry cloth.
  • Dimmable. Full brightness for the floor, half for class, low for the photo wall. The remote dimmer is included.
  • Built to run all day. The LED tube is rated for 50,000 hours, which is over 10 years at 12 hours a day. Every sign carries a 2-year warranty, extendable to 4.

Mounting on gym walls

Gym walls are block, brick, drywall or metal, and the sign comes ready for all of them. Every sign has pre-drilled holes and mounting hardware. On block and brick, use the included wall anchors. On drywall, hit the studs or use the anchors. For a floating look off a rough wall, order standoffs. For a sign in the window or over an open floor, the ceiling hanging kit hangs it from chains or cable.

A 4 to 6 foot sign takes two people and a drill. Larger signs come in pieces that join on the wall, and the proof shows where the mounting points are. If your electrician wants no visible cord, the sign can be hard-wired instead of plugged in. Read the hanging guide.

Sizing a gym sign

  • Feature wall behind the rig or turf: 48 to 72 inches. The sign reads as a statement when it fills about a third of the wall.
  • Above the mirrors or along a lane: 36 to 48 inches for a phrase.
  • Studio reception and yoga rooms: 24 to 36 inches.
  • Garage and home gyms: 24 to 36 inches.
  • Window: 30 to 48 inches.

Tell us the wall width and how far away people stand and we will suggest a size in the proof. Read the size guide.

How it works

  1. Send your logo or the phrase. A logo file, a sketch, or just the words and a font you like. No file needed to start.
  2. Get a priced proof within one business day. The proof shows the sign at size, the tube width, the colors and the price.
  3. Approve and pay. Revisions are free until it is right.
  4. It arrives in 10 to 12 days. Express shipping included, any size. Hang it with the included hardware.

Tips from gym owners

  • Put the logo where the phone points. Members photograph the wall behind the rack and the mirror wall. That is where the logo goes.
  • Go bigger than you think. A 36-inch sign on a 25-foot wall gets lost. Send a photo of the wall with the quote and we will size it.
  • One color for the logo, one for the phrases. Red or white logo, a single accent color for the phrases around the room. More than that fights with the equipment.
  • Bold fonts win. Heavy block lettering reads from distance and suits 8 mm or 12 mm tube. Thin script belongs in the studio, not on the floor.
  • Order the set. Logo, a phrase or two, and a window sign. Ask about a multi-sign discount when you request the quote.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a neon sign for a gym cost?

Most gym signs cost between $450 and $1,300. A 36-inch phrase is around $600; a 48-inch logo is around $1,000; a 60-inch feature-wall logo is around $1,400. Every quote is free and includes a design proof.

How big can a gym sign be?

Any size. Signs over about 6 feet are made in pieces that join on the wall, and the price depends on the design more than the width. Delivery stays 10 to 12 days at any size.

Can the sign take a knock?

LED neon has no glass. The tube is silicone-encased LED on an acrylic backing, so it stands up to a busy floor far better than glass neon. Mount it above head height on the floor and it will not be touched.

Can it be mounted on a block or brick wall?

Yes. Every sign comes with pre-drilled holes and hardware including wall anchors. Standoffs are available if you want it floating off a rough wall.

Can I turn it off with the gym lights?

Yes. Ask for the hard-wired power supply and your electrician can wire it to a switch or a timer. The standard power supply plugs into a normal outlet and comes with a remote dimmer.

How long does it take?

About 10 to 12 days from payment to your door, with express shipping included, at any size. Rush production is available for $150.
